The bold and mysterious Blackwater Lake September 25, 2016

Paddling up Blackwater Creek out to the lake is always an adventure and today was no exception! Bumping over hidden logs under the coffee colored water is what makes this tour so interesting. We spotted a Barred Owl right over our heads watching us float by and then out of the dark swamp we kayaked into the sunny lake. It’s surrounded by ancient Cypress Trees each with its own personality. Some have baby Red Maples growing from their trunks and the Apple Snail's eggs are waiting there to hatch. Others are perches for the Spanish Moss, Air Plants, Orchids and Quill-leaf to grow. The lake was calm today, a hint of Fall is in the air and the sky was bluer than blue. What an awesome day to be paddling!
